Co-researching complexities: Learning strategies for edge walking in community–university research partnerships

Community–university research partnerships (CURPs) comprise a diverse group of stakeholders who share differing capabilities and insights into the same issues, they are widely regarded as valuable to navigate best course action. Partnering co-researchers is core nurturing these partnerships, but it requires careful navigation complexities. The different insider outsider positionalities occupied by highlight experiences ‘walking on edges’ each other’s worlds. This not only challenges collaborations, also enables depth understanding that may be achieved in CURPs where luxury of, or effort in, building team collect, analyse write up data present. article focuses learning strategies advance co-researching capacities occupy divergent positions. focus will lessons from partnership comprising university-affiliated academic researcher, local Kenyan non-governmental organization (NGO) members community which NGO worked. We argue applying selected facilitate positive edge walking enhance meaningful two-way sharing required for cross-cultural CURPs. It recommended university partners examine utility strengthening CURP contexts.
